Why the ROBLOX imagery?
I started building on ROBLOX in 2011. From then until 2025 I poured countless hours of my childhood, teen years, and early adulthood into crafting worlds that nobody else would ever see. I ended up getting the splendid idea to merge all of my childhood creations into one giant mess of a ROBLOX game. I called this game "My Home". It was filled with esoteric secrets, passcodes, teleports, and anything my mind could conjure. That project got me thinking about the nature of creation itself, in relation to imagination. These worlds were truly alive in my head, places my mind could wander to at any time. I crafted them from my own thoughts, memories, and emotions. They were really and truly all mine. It really was like a second home. In September of 2025- following a bug in the ROBLOX report system- my ancient account was permanently banned with no possible way to appeal. This loss hurts me more than I can really even describe. It sounds silly, but it is a wound so deep that words cannot express it.
Co-opting the style of old ROBLOX gives me a way to reclaim what was wrongfully stolen from me. Not only was my account scrubbed from existence along with my childhood memories, but ROBLOX as a platform was stolen from me. It was stolen from all of us. What was once a dream with vision and purpose has been reduced to a soulless conglomerate of shareholders and silicon valley nutjobs. ROBLOX is a demon puppeting around a decaying corpse. Its imagery, aesthetics, and nostalgia are better off belonging to us. The builders, scripters, pioneers- the people who remember. That original community we forged from creation and imagination. ROBLOX owns trademarks, but we own the memories.
Any structure can be a house, but what makes a house a home? That is the idea that inspired Plastic Houses.
